Donating to an organisation

How to give a one-off donation without buying a raffle ticket, and what happens afterwards.

Last reviewed 12 September 2026

Some organisations on RaffleLink accept donations as well as selling raffle tickets. If you'd like to support a cause without entering the raffle, look for the Donate button on the organisation's page, or beside Follow on any of their raffle pages.

A donation isn't a raffle entry. You're giving a gift, so there are no tickets, no numbers, and nothing in the draw. If it's the draw you're after, buy a ticket instead.

Giving

  1. Choose Donate.
  2. Select Amount. Pick one of the suggested amounts or choose Custom and type your own.
  3. Decide about the processing fee (see below).
  4. Enter your Full Name and Email, then confirm your email address.
  5. Pay by card.

You don't need an account, and you don't have to have bought a ticket.

The organisation sets its own minimum, so the smallest amount you can give varies. It's never below $10. The largest single donation the checkout takes is $10,000, which is there to catch a mistyped amount. If you'd like to give more, contact the organisation directly.

The processing fee

You'll see a tickbox reading Add $X to cover our processing fee, ticked already.

Leaving it ticked adds a small amount (5.5%, GST included) on top of your gift to cover the cost of taking a card payment. Your donation itself is unchanged: the organisation receives the full amount you chose either way.

You can untick it. If you do, RaffleLink covers the processing cost instead, and the organisation still receives every cent of your gift. There's no penalty and the organisation isn't told.

Your receipt

Once your payment goes through you'll see a thank-you page and get an email with a PDF attached. The email comes from the organisation, and replying to it reaches them, not RaffleLink.

Whether your donation is tax-deductible depends on the organisation, not on you or the amount. RaffleLink checks their ABN for a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement:

  • If they're endorsed, your receipt says the donation is tax-deductible and names their ABN. Keep it for your tax return.
  • If they're not, you'll get a thank-you and a record of your gift, but it isn't a deductible donation.

If you added the processing fee, only the donation itself is deductible. The fee was paid to RaffleLink, so it isn't part of your gift.

Lost the email? Check your spam folder first, then contact the organisation directly. They can resend your receipt.

Changing your mind

Contact the organisation you gave to. They can refund a donation in full, provided the money hasn't already been paid out to them, which usually happens within a week.

Donation refunds are all-or-nothing: there's no partial refund. If the money has already reached them, they can still arrange a return with you directly, it just isn't something RaffleLink can do from its end.

Something went wrong with the payment

If your card is declined or the payment doesn't complete, nothing is charged and no donation is recorded. Try again, or use a different card.

If you were charged but never got a receipt, contact the organisation. If you can't reach them, email support@rafflelink.com with the date and amount and we'll track it down.
